Vasilisa the Beautiful by MiloNeuman Vasilisa the Beautiful by MiloNeuman
Heeey, some more illustrator homework. The version I submitted to my teacher was all done in vectors. The version you guys get to look at, I cheated on and added some photoshop filters and effects and whatnot.

The assignment was to illustrate a chidren's story or fairy tale. I, of course, had to go with something obscure and Russian like the story of Vasilisa the Beautiful and Baba Yaga.

I'm not explaining the plot, you can go wikipedia it. That's what the internet is for.

Holy craaaaap, this is awesome! I wouldn't have any patience for something like this! How did you go about the process of making it? Did you do it all in Illustrator, or scan a sketch in first and trace it?

....Geez, stop being so cool all the time. >_<

UuUUuUUUGH, I hated this assignment. It took me three weeks. Yes, I sketched it first. Frankly I liked the sketch more than the finished product, but I did what I could considering that Illustrator is a cumbersome, slow, overly-complicated program for people who are too cheap to buy themselves a tablet.

And, logo designers and stuff like that. But shoot me in the foot if I ever try to make an illustration with it again.

GRRRaarRRR!!!!

And I am not. :P

UuuUuugh, never. Illustrator is a wicked, nasty, overly complicated, user unfriendly program that I'll never use again as long as I live as soon as this class is over.

I'm lovin's this vector-y style, y'know. And the filters work really well.

I'm actually not so sure about the filters now. They look better on the monitors at school (which are a bit darker). My monitor seems a bit too bright for them.

Yes you should! :D She's awesome! And you seem to really have a love of the russian myth/folklore stuff.

(On a side note, Enchantment by Orson Scott Card, book you'd love. It's got tons to do with the Russian folklore. *firm nod*)

THIS is the sort of reason why you are so awesome. I'm amazed by the lineless art, the fluidity-- another leap forward in your range of styles. And need I even mention my love of your character designs at this point?

Aw, thanks very much. Though, while working on this, I realized that I pretty much hate everything about Illustrator except for the font editing tools, so I'll probably never ever use it again now that the illustrator half of the class is over.
